[James definitely felt a kinship to Nat that goes beyond the whole 'saved the world together', one that's different than any other Avengers he's worked with. Something that had quickly turned into attraction when he had started to know her better. Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't feel like she's always walking on eggshells around, trying to evade his past and the torture that comes with it, or maybe it's the fact that she seems to love poking at his grumpy demeanor, and managing to make him smile as she does so. Or maybe it's all in her non-verbal, in the knowing and understanding looks that come from their similar history that she gives him when no one else is looking, making him feel almost like a normal person at times.
Whatever it is, Bucky didn't think it was mutual, until now.]
Yeah? I promise you won't be in trouble if you share all those wicked thoughts with me, then.
How about kiss and show instead of kiss and tell? Maybe we can compare notes about our dreams of each other?
Because I've also been wondering how soft your lips are, and how sweet your skin might taste.
[It doesn't matter how many times they've come across one another. Like somehow knows like. Maybe she wasn't given the serum, and with it a long lasting life or super powers, but she was raised a super soldier, nonetheless. Her virtue was stripped down and stolen long before she had even thought of what it meant to be a woman. She was a soldier and had killed. That was her legacy. Death.
Now, finally open and speaking to the man she's spent hours thinking of after he managed to wander into her life is also the one person that somehow doesn't make her feel the blood on her hands all the time. Given all this she finds it hard not to leap into the fire with him almost immediately. Maybe she should feel bad about it, but she finds it hard to fight what her entire being seems to want.
... and when he sends back thoughts similar to hers. Her heart all but trembles.]
I wouldn't mind if you came over for a glass of wine, and then maybe I could show you exactly what's been on my mind since I've seen you.
I would love to share the flavor of my lips, and even that of my skin, if you'd be willing to do the same.
You know we would never dare to leave you out of all the fun, Nat. And Thursday it is. You prefer take out or going out?
[It feels surreal to Bucky that he's actually setting up a date with Natasha, even if might just be a friendly one. Or not. Hopefully not.]
Yeah, exactly. Even if it's avenging, at least knowing that the people HYDRA put in power through me are getting the punishment they deserve sorta makes me feel less guilty, I guess.
Hey, that's how we show our appreciation for one another? ANd I have a feeling you would have been giving me that look anyway, so feel free to.
[There's only Nat would can call them both on their bullshit, after all.]
You'll have to be the one letting me know about it, I don't have a mirror close by.
[He will always enjoy the teasing, but he'll also always be careful not to push past her boundaries, especially not while he's still figuring them out.]
Maybe not, but he knew the key would be secured with you.
Like I said, I'll do my best.
[And at ten on the dot, Bucky walks out on the rook the Avenger tower, a large case in hand, because he did promise Nat to bring her gift, after all.]
Yeah, now I want to see that face too. Please tell me you've thought of a first-row seat for this, right? It can be my birthday gift for the year, if you want.
[She doesn't think he wants her to. And once she lays eyes on him again, Grace may not want to. None of this was planned or even expected but he makes her happy so she'll do whatever feels good in the moment.]
Don't work too hard. You don't want to be all sweaty before you get here.
[She's aware that's a bad innuendo. But as Bucky has already demonstrated Grace doesn't usually think before she texts.]
[She's not opposed - well, she wouldn't be opposed if it were a warmer month than December. But she's absolutely not above continuing to torture him.]
The good news is that I'm pretty sure he'd consider 'secondary Christmas party' as part of keeping it secure. See you soon.
[She joins him only a few moments later - and it's clear that she's stopped somewhere before she made her way outside. There's a mid sized box wrapped in shiny red paper in her hands, and she's bundled up in a knee length coat that's zipped up to her throat.
Leaving the white stockings and red heels she had on in that picture she'd sent him earlier visible. She hadn't been wearing them at the party downstairs. There's a little smirk at the corner of her mouth.] How's the view?
Of course I've thought of a first-row seat for this. It's a private party. Very classy. They seem open to having one of them jump out of a cake. Wanna be the camera man?
If you want to help, that's great. I just find housework to be relaxing ever since I got my place back.
I took your advice and I got a job offer.
[It's a job that will burn what's left of her bridges and possibly ruin what relationship she has with her mother, but there's no denying it's a fresh start.]
Right. Just don't bring Sam, I really don't need him to remind me he saved my ass like a damsel in distress again.
[Truthfully, he doesn't mind if the new Cap is coming too, if it means getting out of this place, but he needs to spend his frustration on something, and Sam is an easy target, no matter how much he likes the man.
While he waits for Nat to figure out where he is, Bucky looks around with the light of his phone, trying to figure out how to get out of this place.]
Looks like I'm a silo of some kind? The walls have no corners. Think there might be a hatch on the ceiling, but I can't really make it out this high.
[It helps, to try and be proactive and focus on what could help Nat find him, because he can't let himself panic. He hasn't felt this trap since Berlin, when Zemo had started to say his code words.]
You can wear whatever you want. I merely said I wasn't slipping on some fancy dress for a party.
.... I'll consider clothes optional now. We'll see what does or does not make it under my fluffy robe.
[Because how can she not have fun with that. In fact, she's pondering putting on a little bit of lace on so that she can flash pieces of it just to make him sweat. The price seems about right.]
[Bringing another person was the last thought on her mind. Natasha didn't need help to rescue anyone, least of all James. Hacking into the system, she fights her way through the normal security, and then through all the layered encryption. There's no small amount of cursing she issues when the newest firewalls fight against her older program.
It still gets her through. She's going to have to remember to get in touch with someone and update her software. Getting in touch with the other members locations, even when they are supposed to be hidden can mean the difference between life and death.
Nowhere Arkansas is not where she expected him, but the jet still makes it in an hour and change. He was right. There's a grain field around him, but there's also some other things that make it seem a little suspect. Wiring and redlights tip Natasha off to larger security on the property. ]
Hey, James. Can you hear me. I'm here, but I gotta take care of some stuff out here before I can spring you. I think this was meant to blow, or do... something if someone tried to get too close. You must have been onto something. Take a few more deep breaths and I'll have us back home in two shakes.
